In the lower level of the Bedford Residence, custom white oak panelling integrates low-voltage wiring, perimeter lighting, and full-width casework.

Framing and Infrastructure Coordination

Flush millwork installations depend on early-phase discipline long before finish carpentry begins. In the lower level of the Bedford Residence, the media wall required strict coordination between structural framing, electrical rough-ins, and ventilation paths.

Concealed solid blocking was set to align with equipment mounts, while dedicated low-voltage pathways were mapped through wall cavities to prevent exposed cabling. Thermal management for audiovisual components was integrated directly into the framing strategy, providing concealed airflow paths behind and beneath the lower cabinet run. When interior surfaces are designed with zero margin for error, rough framing tolerances must match the tolerances of the millwork shop.

White Oak Detailing and Millwork

The media wall anchors the lower-level lounge with a warm, disciplined material palette. Built through iBuild's in-house millwork shop, the feature wall consists of rift white oak panelling installed with consistent grain direction and uniform reveal joints.

A continuous perimeter reveal houses integrated LED channels, casting a soft wash of light along the margins and creating a defined shadow gap between the timber and drywall planes. Beneath the panelled surface, a full-width run of slab-front cabinetry maintains long horizontal lines. Push-latches and concealed interior hardware eliminate the need for surface pulls, letting the natural grain read clearly. Field scribing and final fitting were executed by iBuild's carpentry crew to ensure flush transitions against adjacent finishes.

Architectural Language Across the Home

The lower lounge, bar, and understair casework are part of a broader whole-home remodel in Bedford, New Hampshire. Throughout the house, the interior reconfiguration focused on open spatial circulation informed by West Coast contemporary architecture and warm minimalism.

The palette remains consistent across every level. White oak, walnut, blackened metal, and marble and porcelain slabs extend through the kitchen, scullery, pantry, and private dressing suites. On the exterior, clean envelope detailing pairs cedar with standing-seam roofing, framed by integrated site hardscape and lighting. The media wall reflects that same architectural intent, resolving utility and geometry into a cohesive built element.
