Envelope and the Rebuilt Elevation

When the core massing of a home is structurally sound, a whole-home remodel focuses on the discipline of the building envelope. For this project in Bedford, New Hampshire, the original volume remained intact, but its entire protective skin was stripped and rebuilt. The former finish was replaced with a dark, composed exterior facade paired with standing-seam roofing and exterior mahogany carpentry. New window units were integrated into the framing to reset thermal performance and modernize the home's exterior lines, allowing the building to read with contemporary restraint.

Reconfiguring the Interior Plan

Inside, the layout underwent a complete spatial reconfiguration. Influenced by West Coast contemporary architecture and warm minimalism, the interior transitions were opened to establish longer sightlines and an intuitive circulation flow. The kitchen program was redesigned to include an adjoining scullery and pantry, keeping primary food preparation concealed while leaving the main island and entertaining areas uncluttered. Material selections center on balance: marble and porcelain slabs anchor the working surfaces, balanced against the warmth of white oak and walnut flooring and paneling.

Millwork Program and Spatial Density

Custom casework serves as the connective tissue throughout the home, executed to tight tolerances by iBuild's in-house carpentry team. Dedicated millwork packages were framed and installed across the office, library, and dressing suite. In the public zones, the team built out a custom wet bar, integrated lounge cabinetry, and concealed understair casework that turns an often-wasted structural cavity into functional storage. Blackened metal accents articulate junctions between stone slabs and wood surfaces, reinforcing the clean geometry of the interior architecture.

Grounding the Site Approach

The exterior transformation required re-engineering the immediate ground plane. Rebuilt retaining walls and graded hardscape stabilize the site and reframe how the house is approached on arrival. Integrated exterior lighting washes the new cedar and mahogany details, establishing clear visual pathways from the driveway to the entry. By coordinating the building envelope, in-house millwork, and site hardscapes together, the renovation delivers a unified structure resolved inside and out.
